This commission is the result of listening to a client. In early 2006, I was approached by a client who wanted me to design a vertical mobile. Per our agreement, I drew several very rough pencil sketches. She select three, and I added a fourth to investigate for myself. From sheet metal, I made four four-foot tall mobile maquettes for her. The client chose one, an abstract 'Miro' inspired piece. I kept the others for study. One of these was the "Debris Curtain", inspired by a 8-foot cube sculpture by Cornelia Parker, a large suspended cube of charred wood scraps from a burnt church.
Later that year, an art consultant submitted the photos of the maquettes to her client. The client chose the "Debris Curtain", requesting a 15 foot tall version, and in color. And the name change to: "Abstract Waterfall".
